MICROBLADING/PMU FAQs

Microblading, Boss Brows LA, permanent cosmetics, Boss Brows 8450C Eager Road, St. Louis, MO, 63144

What is Microblading?

Microblading is the artistic technique of tattooing individual hair strokes with a handheld tool called a microblade. Unlike traditional tattooing, which uses a machine, microblading artists hand draw each hair to match the color and coarseness of your eyebrows. The result? Gorgeous, natural looking eyebrows.

How long does the appointment last?

2-3 Hours depending on the artist and if there are any corrections needed.

What is the price?

Price varies depending on what Microblading service is being performed: Strokes, Ombre, or a combination of both. Starts at $500 and up. If additional touch up services are necessary after the "complimentary" follow up appointment, it may result in an additional charge. Corrections for botched eyebrow work by another artist may result in an additional fee as well.

How do I make an appointment?

Clients have the option of booking most services online or over the phone. To request an appointment online please  CLICK HERE  to book

St. Louis permanent cosmetics, brows, Boss Brows Studio 8450C Eager Road, St. Louis, MO, 63144

How should I prepare for my appointment?

Before your appointment, we highly encourage our clients to check out our Instagram and "shop" for eyebrows on our feed. Eyebrows comes in many shapes and styles, from feathered to bold, arched to straight. Our microblading artists will work with you to customize your best brows. In the week before your appointment, we recommend avoiding blood thinners, aspirin, alcohol or use of any retinol creams.

Aftercare/Healing

Stay out of the sun and water while your microblading heals. Avoid chlorine, exfoliation creams, and sun exposure; they may cause your color to fade. We have a full list of After Care Guidelines under  'Microblading Section' or in our Blog Section.

What is a Complimentary Follow Up Appointment

A "Complimentary Follow Up/Touch Up" appointment is done 8-12 weeks after the initial microblading/PMU appointment. This appointment is where the artist perfects the shape, color, pigment retention, addresses any changes the client wants to make, etc. The appointment usually takes about one hour but can vary depending on client's pigment retention. The Follow up is booked at the initial microblading/PMU appointment which will reserve the day and time for your complimentary follow up.  At BBLA, we do our best to accommodate our client's schedule. If changes to the scheduled appointment need to be made, we recommend making those changes as soon as possible due to the artist's availability. If a follow up appointment needs to be rescheduled, BBLA cannot guarantee there will be an opening within that 8-12 week "complimentary" time frame.  Additional fees will incur for touch ups done outside that 8- 12 weeks time frame. BBLA has a 48 hour cancellation policy which will apply to the complimentary touch up. The complimentary touch up is null and void if there is a No shows/late cancel. Touch up fees will apply and vary depending on the artist.  *Please see 'Pricing' for more info or contact the studio for more information.

Complimentary Follow Up/Touch Up Appointment Policy

We offer a complimentary touch up/follow up treatment with every NEW microblading/PMU eyebrow service which must be performed 8-12 weeks after your initial microblading appointment. Your complimentary follow up appointment is booked at your initial service and is subject to the artist's availability. We understand that life happens and sometimes there are unforeseen scheduling conflicts or sick days that prevent you from making it to your appointment. Due to the nature of a "complimentary" appointment, BBLA has a strict 48 hour cancellation policy.

Complimentary touch ups will be null and void (resulting in an additional fee for touch ups) if a client reschedules/cancels within that 48 hour time frame. Arriving more than 10 minutes late to the touch up appointment is considered a "No Show" and will result in additional fee for future touch up appointments.

Please be aware that artist's schedules do book out well in advance which is why we highly recommend ensuring your touch up appointment  doesn't conflict with your schedule.  Our goal is to provide our clients with the best service possible, and the best way to achieve great results is when the artist has the opportunity to "perfect" the eyebrows as well as address any normal pigment loss due to the healing process at that complimentary touch up appointment.

If this appointment is missed or needs to be rescheduled outside of the 8-12 week complimentary time frame, there is a touch up fee. All fees are based on the artist's level of expertise and priced accordingly.

Complimentary Follow up/Touch up appointments are ONE service. However, additional touch ups are also available for those who need it. See 'Pricing' for  more information or email for questions.

When should I get a touch up? How much is it?

For BBLA microblading/PMU clients in need of a touch up, due to natural fading of pigment/loss of retention or blurred strokes, a COLOR BOOST is required. COLOR BOOSTS must be performed by the same BBLA artist as your initial procedure due to different artist's level and price points. When a Color Boost is needed will vary from person to person. Factors that determine when or how often a color boost is needed include: client's skin type (oily skin tends to fade faster), age, skin treatments/products (ie: use of products that speed up the natural cell turnover like retinol), lifestyle (people who spend more time in the sun or frequent tanners will notice pigment fading faster), makeup routine, commitment to grooming the brows and personal preference. On average, color boosts are performed every 1-3 years. Some clients prefer to get their eyebrows touched up every year, like clock work. They like that super fresh, crisp look of an annual color boost, while others prefer to wait until loss of pigment retention is more visible. In this case, clients don't mind applying makeup to the eyebrows if necessary.  Price of color boost is determined by level of artist and amount of time since your last touch up.

Pricing is as follows by level:

ARTIST: $200 (>12 months) $250 (<12 months)

MASTER ARTIST: $300 (>12 months) $350 (<12 months)

MASTER ARTIST/EDUCATOR: $350 (>12 months) $450 (<12 months)

** COLOR BOOST SERVICES ARE FOR BBLA CLIENTS ONLY! If you have previous PMU/microblading done by another artist/performed somewhere other than Boss Brows LA, you will need to refer to "NEW CLIENT" prices. For New Clients with previous PMU/microblading- Please SEND PHOTOS of your eyebrows with no makeup and in natural light to be reviewed by BBLA team. Email photos to- studio@bossbrowsla.com

MICROBLADING/PMU FAQs

Microblading in STL, Boss Brows at 8450C Eager Road, St. Louis, MO, 63144

Can Microblading Cover Scars?

It's great for that! But we recommend sending us a photo of your eyebrows without makeup, so one of our artists can review and let you know whether or not you’re a candidate for microblading.

What is The Difference Between Microblading & Micro Pigmentation

Technically microblading is a form of micropigmentation, but we use a microblade to hand draw individual hair strokes. Micropigmentation specialists use a permanent makeup machine, which offers less control and results in blurrier strokes.

Does It Look Like Real Hair?

Yes! Because we hand draw every hair stroke, you'll marvel at this super precise technique.

How Long Does Microblading Last?

This will really vary depending on the client and variables such as skin type, age, skin care products, amount of sun exposure, etc. Over time, the PMU will fade and get a little lighter due to the natural skin turn over. BBLA recommends a color boost to revamp the pigment and shape every 1-3 years.

Does Microblading Hurt?

Most clients report little or no pain! We use a topical anesthetic before the procedure to numb the affected area. However, overall the discomfort of the service depends on a person's tolerance for pain. Some clients of ours do not use the topical anesthetic at all furring the microblading procure and experience very little discomfort.

EYEBROW/LASH LAMINATION + WAXING FAQs

Can I get lamination if I'm pregnant?

If you do not have any other further contraindications, and you are comfortable receiving the service we can proceed. We always recommend consulting your doctor first to receive their professional opinion.

Can I go tanning before a wax?

Tanning can cause the skin to be more sensitive, so we do not recommend tanning before your wax. Wait at least 24 hours after using a tanning bed to receive a wax.

Can I wax if I have diabetes?

It is not recommended for those with diabetes to receive a wax as it can increase the chances of potential side effects.

Can I get a chemical treatment before a wax or lamination?

Chemical treatments cause your skin to turn over at a faster rate and can cause the skin to be extra sensitive. Receiving a wax or lamination after a chemical treatment could cause lifting of the skin and/or irritation and burning. We do not recommend getting a wax or lamination after you have had a chemical treatment.

Can I get a brow service if I am using Acutane, Tetracycline, Retinol, Retin-A, AHA, or BHA ?

If you use any products with these ingredients in them you will need to discontinue using the product for the minimum time listed below before receiving a wax or lamination.

Accutane - at least 6 months

Retin-A (Tretinoin) - at least 3 weeks

Retinol/AHA/BHA/Glycolic Acid - at least 3 days

To help keep your eyebrow hair healthy and help maintain the results of your lamination we recommend the following tips:

- Avoid rubbing your brows

- Avoid sleeping on your face

- Condition your brows with a small amount of coconut oil daily (wait 24-48 hours after receiving a lamination to start this)

- Brush them throughout the day using a spoolie to help train and maintain the look of your brows.

SKIN SERVICE FAQ’s

CONTRAINDICATIONS

It is important to us that you receive the best service suited for you. To do so you want to make sure you do not have any of the following. The following conditions will keep you from being able to receive the service.

DERMAPLANING

  • Sunburn
  • Skin conditions (such as eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, etc.)
  • Current inflamed acne lesions
  • Open skin lesions
  • Use of Accutane currently or in the past 6 months
  • The use of prescription retinol within a week of treatment
  • Recent chemical peel (within 4 weeks)
  • Skin cancer

SKIN FAQs

How to prep for Dermaplaning?

Although your specialist will cleanse your face, it's best to come with a clean face. Ensure you have no contraindications such as: sunburn, the use of Accutane, RetinA or Retinol, skin conditions or medical conditions.  Discontinue use of exfoliants 72 hours prior to service.

Benefits of Dermaplaning

- Brighter, more youthful skin tone

- Removes tiny hairs or peach fuzz

- Reduces fine lines and wrinkles

- Smoother skin

- Evening skin tone

- Allows deeper penetration for skincare products

- Better makeup application

Can I add this service to my Brow Wax?

Yes! This is a great service to add to any eyebrow service such as brow shaping, lamination or tint.

Dermaplaning After Care?

- Avoid direct sun exposure for the next 24-48 hours

- Wear sunscreen

- We do not recommend applying a face full of makeup immediately after your dermaplaning treatment. If you need to wear makeup, you can, but your skin barrier is more open and may become more irritated. Once your skin has had time to settle (about a day), proceed with all the foundation your heart desires.

- Avoid touching your face (keep the area clean)

Will my hair grow back thicker and darker?

No. This is a myth.
